Established in 2000 Daintree Valley Haven offers a choice of three comfortable private self-contained B&B bungalows on 30 secluded acres at the end of the Stewart Creek Valley, 10 minutes beyond Daintree Village. Varied habitats on the property – rainforest, wetlands-dam, tropical gardens, fruit trees and some areas of open grassland – attract over 140 species of birds and an abundance of butterflies, especially the Ulysses and Cairns Birdwing. Native wildlife includes Northern Brown and Long-nosed Bandicoot, Northern Swamp Wallaby and Saw-shelled Turtle. Many of these may be seen from your private verandah or along one of the walking trails around the property.
Residents and visitors include Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher, Azure and Forest Kingfisher, Black Bittern, Lovely Fairy-wren, Lewin’s, Macleay’s, Yellow-spotted, Bridled and Dusky Honeyeaters, Double-eyed Fig Parrot, Victoria’s Riflebird, Red-necked Crake andWompoo Fruit-Dove. Water birds visiting the wetlands-dam – Magpie Geese, Spoonbills, Cormorants, Egrets and Black-necked Stork. Along Stewart Creek Road, among many other species are Straw-necked Ibis, Masked Lapwing and Lesser Sooty Owl.
The bungalows each have either a king-twin or queen bed plus sofa-bed for a third adult, kitchenette with cooktop, microwave, fridge etc, ensuite, air-conditioning and a private verandah. A complimentary breakfast basket is delivered each afternoon and includes home-grown fruit, cereals, juice, local coffee and tea and home-made jam and yoghurt – enjoy your own ‘breakfast with the birds’ next morning.
